Silver Materials Guide

Silver Guide: Understanding Our Materials

At JAE Jewelry, we thoughtfully select metals that balance beauty, durability, and everyday wear. Our silver pieces are designed to feel effortless, natural, and lived in—whether worn alone or layered.

Sterling Silver (925) & Fine Silver

We use both 925 Sterling Silver and Fine Silver, each offering its own unique character.

Sterling Silver (925) is composed of 92.5% pure silver, blended with a small amount of other metals for added strength. It’s known for its bright, polished finish and is ideal for everyday wear.

Fine Silver (99.9%) is nearly pure silver. It has a softer, more luminous glow with a slightly matte, organic feel. Because it is more delicate, it’s often used in designs where texture and subtlety are part of the piece.

Oxidized Sterling Silver

Oxidized sterling silver is sterling silver that has been intentionally darkened to enhance depth and detail.

This process creates a rich, shadowed finish—ranging from soft gray to deep charcoal—bringing out texture and giving each piece a more organic, worn-in character.

Over time, this finish may naturally lighten with wear, revealing brighter silver underneath. This evolution is part of the piece’s story and can be refreshed if desired.

Black Rhodium Plated Sterling Silver

Black rhodium plated sterling silver is sterling silver finished with a layer of black rhodium, a rare and durable precious metal.

This creates a deep, high-shine black finish—sleek, modern, and more polished in appearance than oxidized silver.

As with all plated finishes, it may gradually wear over time depending on use, allowing the sterling silver beneath to show through. With proper care, it will maintain its rich tone beautifully.

A Note on Wear

Silver is a natural material and may develop a soft patina over time. Exposure to air, moisture, and skin oils can gently change its appearance.

  • Sterling silver can be easily cleaned and restored to its original shine
  • Oxidized finishes may lighten with wear
  • Black rhodium plating may gradually fade with time

We believe these subtle changes add to the beauty of each piece—making it uniquely yours.

The JAE Perspective

We design with intention—choosing materials that feel as natural as they look.
From the brightness of sterling silver to the depth of oxidized finishes, every piece is made to be worn, layered, and lived in.
